St. Peter's Discipleship Pathway

Participate Monthly!

Discipleship is ordering and orienting our entire lives around following Jesus. We can’t just do that once in a while. We can’t just do that with one dimension of our lives. We can’t just do that superficially. We can’t just do that and remain our same old selves.

Discipleship requires a whole life commitment and a whole life investment of everything we have. Anything less may be nice, cute, fun, or good…  but it’s not discipleship. There are four dimensions of discipleship that encompass all the dimensions of our lives.

This Year St. Peter's United Methodist Church begins a more intentional discipleship journey for our members and friends. Our GOAL is to have 300 people GROWING, SERVING, REACHING, & GIVING every month.

Serving in the Life of the church in which we BUILD up the community of faith in worship, fellowship, and ministry together with one another. In the Church: Serve the church (solo or in a group) in a way that supports, strengthens, and advances the ministries of the church. The list in virtually endless, choose a place to serve: worship, music children, youth, and families, administration, welcoming & hospitality, AV & computer technology, buildings & grounds, visitation. The list is far more expansive than this: find something you love to do- and do it at church!

Reaching the community: in which we REACH out with the Good News of Jesus to the neighborhood and world through evangelism, mission, and service projects that serve needs. In Mission: Reach out in our community, region, nation, and world serving the tangible needs of vulnerable people. Join one of the missions the church currently leads- or start a new one! In Sharing Your Faith: Evangelism! Tell people about the Good News of Jesus in word and in deed! Invite someone to church, do a random act of kindness, share faith-inspiring resources (words, literature, movies, posts, etc.). The possibilities are endless. Do something that feels authentic for you.

Giving with a generosity that matches our generosity in which we GIVE our resources and invest in the community of faith to ensure ministry and mission continues now and in the future to the glory of God. Generosity & Gratitude: We give in thanksgiving for all that God has done for us.

New to Giving- Begin to give consistently. Intentional Giving- Plan what percentage of your income to give for a year. Grow in Giving– Set goals to increase your giving toward a tithe. Tithing- Give 10% of your income or more. Legacy Giving– Gift money, property or securities through a will or estate plan.

Personal Faith Formation in which we GROW in our knowledge, maturity, and practice of faith, hope, and love. In Faith: Participate in Sunday worship, Bible reading, communion, praying, spiritual disciplines, support groups, faith/discussion/study groups, journaling. practicing the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. In Friendship: Develop healthy, Christ-centered, relationships that encourage and support faith. Participate in fellowship groups, outings, and church events.

JOIN THE PATHWAY!

The congregation will receive a monthly invitation to simply 'Check In' (yes, four simple checkboxes). It's up to you to participate, in any way you choose, in each of the four areas of Discipleship each month. There are some suggestions listed under each of the four areas- or chart your own path in each area.
